Renting a condo in Colorado Mountains? Where?

We're looking for a nice, inexpensive condo to rent for a few days between RMNP and Moab Sept 9-11. Any suggestions for a town with nice mountain and/or lake view for a retired couple? Mostly want to hang out in a cool (as in temperature) place....we are escaping the heat and humidity of FL. Would like to pay around $100 per night. Anything much more and we can stay in a motel somewhere! Dillon looks nice, but pricier than I expected. Thanks.

I'd look at Breckenridge.

With respect to price, you need to understand that the Colorado mountains are also a summer destination--it isn't just for skiers. But you should be able to find something reasonable. Look at bidding on hotels in Vail, etc. on Priceline.

$100/night will be tough for a condo, or even a decent motel. September is less busy, though, because school has started but skiing has not.

Look in the less obvious towns, like Grand Lake, Granby, and Winter Park. You could leave RMNP via Grand Lake, which is beautiful.

$100 condo even in the off season is hard to by. You will not get much of a view for a hundred. Try Vail only because Vail has thousands of unit and somebody by be willing to deal in Sept. Avon is another possibility. Glenwood Springs, perhaps Snowmass.

I got the impression that you are looking as far west as possible (as close to Moab from RMNP as possible?). If so, on a straight line between RMNP and Moab, Vail/Beaver Creek is the best bet, followed by Sunlight (not a major ski resort) in Glenwood Springs.
You should be able to get fabulous prices on your dates; that's after school starts and before the fall color season, AND before the ski season. Bet you could get anything you want for a steal.

I may be wrong but I think September might be pretty close to the aspens turning in the high country which would be wonderful. But ski areas with their huge numbers of rooms (as fmpden points out) might be good possibilities.

Thanks all for your suggestions which points me in the right direction to search. We have stayed at vrbo.com rentals all over the world and generally find them to be nicer and cheaper than motel rooms. I'll keep looking.

Aspens usually turn in late September in the mountains.
