Kona Village Resort, Run of the House, and other Big Island Hotel Questions

I've got my reservations to go to the Big Island...first two nites at the Marriott, then KVR for five nights. We've booked their lowest rate room and they said it would be run of the house. Does that mean they will give us the best room available when we check in? Because I'm wondering if we should reserve something else where we can be guarantee at least a partial ocean view. Was thinking of the Hapuna Prince or the Fairmont Orchid, so would appreciate any opinions anyone can offer. Thanks.

Haven't stayed at the KVR or Marriott on the Big Island; however, we did stay at the Hapuna Prince and loved it. I had booked the least expensive room but when we arrived, they put us in a great room on the ground floor directly on the lawn to the beach--we could walk out our sliding doors and be on the beach. Had a nice little patio. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

My choice would go like this-

Hapuna for the awesome beach location.

Orchid to be spoiled in luxury.

Village for an isolated unique experience.

(Never stayed at them, only seen them.)

We stayed at Kona Village and loved our room on the lagoon -- in our opinion it was even better than being on the beach! So, I wouldn't fret too much about it. The entire resort is beautiful.

I've decided that we'll spend our first two nights at the Hapuna Beach Resort instead of the Marriott (have heard there is construction noise at the Marriott), and then head to KVR for five nights. That way, we will experience both hotels.

I realize that this is a six year old thread, but I can explain the Run of the Village at Kona Village Resort in case anybody is curious. You decide on the minimum level you want, from Standard to Deluxe and pay in advance for your stay. The day you check in, they assign the best available bungalow, exclusive of the Royals. So you may get a standard, (if that's the level you prepaid) but you may get a deluxe. The Royals are the beach front or Ocean front bungalows, and the rest are either on the lagoon (gorgeous), the lava, or the garden area, near the beach. If you want a close look at the resort, go to www.davidskvr.net, which is a website I put up as a labor of love for a place I dearly love.
