Kona Village Resort

I received this video this morning. Needless to say, I'm very saddened to see the damage report, but I'm optimistic. As regular TA contributors know, Kona Village is a very large part of my personal life and I'm going to continue to work on a revision of www.davidskvr.net which I propose to release on its second anniversary in June. (Some pictures in the current version are obsolete now, sadly.) KVR has an extremely loyal family of guests, and we'll keep sending our encouragement and good vibes to those who will bring the village back to life for us.

"As regular TA contributors know, Kona Village is a very large part of my personal life and ..."

This is Fodors.

Yeah, I caught that after it was too late. Sorry. Should have been "As regular Fodor's contributors know..." which is also true.

That was a very illuminating video. Thanks for posting. We have friends who were supposed to be arriving there tomorrow. They were so disappointed. They are staying at the Mauna Kea instead. Best of luck to you too as you grieve your favoite place.

Thanks for posting the link. I haven't stayed at Kona Village but I was curious about the extent of damage. Hopefully they rebuild for the better and you are able to return soon.

I hadn't noticed the earlier video, so I am grateful to mum for posting for those of us who arrn't on the boards as much as others and don't the chance to check everything out everyday.

David, although I saw this disturbing footage on another thread, I appreciate you starting a fresh thread. I understand how near and dear this place is to a you and wbpii and how concerned you are since KVR is like home to you after years of being part of their returning ohana.

iamq, I hope your friends have a wonderful trip. KVR is such a unique destination, and although I can understand the disappointment, there is much to celebrate on the BI.

Although I have not visited KVR, I hope that they retain the authenticity of what their faithful following fell in love with to inspire many a pilgrimage back to that beautiful place.

Warmest Aloha

Good thinking David, I should have separated the two resorts earlier. It just that the story just kept evolving and I kept posting.

iamq Mar 17th, 2011 10:26 AM

Yes, kudos to David for separating them. Well done. :)

I just feel like the news get worse and worse.

If the utilities are damaged, it will take months, not one and not two or three, maybe 6.

wbpiii Mar 17th, 2011 03:46 PM

An updated article with more bad news.

It is good to see that both hotels appear to be attempting to take care of their employees and do the right thing during this crisis. How sad for the KVR. It must be such a mess. So many things to fix.
