Hi Margie,
We stayed there last May with friends that go there each year for the last 20 years. The motel sits right at the ocean's edge, with a volcanic rock wall separating the ocean by only about 30 feet from the motel. It takes a couple of nights to get used to the crashing wave sounds, but it is wonderful. Try to get on either the second or third levels as you can leave your balcony door open all the time and more privacy.
The rooms are well kept and the people who run the place are wonderful.
Each night many guests go to the patio on the pool level where they visit and exchange stories, drink a little wine and have fun. In the daytime, you can see the eels in ocean water, right next to the volcanic wall. People feed them small pieces of fish and bacon and the eels are huge and almost tame.
This motel is over twenty years old, but has been well maintained. Walking distance from town and snorkeling nearby. Book way in advance as people make reservations for their return visit a year in advance. It's rather a "funky" little motel, but the location on the ocean make it unique. Good luck.

Stayed there last year and will go back again and again. I agree with everything previous poster said. Funky's a good word for it..not weird, not scary, we really did love it and can't wait to stay there again. Have fun!!

So glad to read these reviews-just made resevations for a 7 day stay in August. This property was also a "solid gold value" in "Hawaii-The Big Island Revealed". Reserved a 3rd story room with kitchenette for 78.00(incl taxes).
Sounds like a great deal-any other experiences there? Thanks, Laurie
