Kiwi student needs accommodation Dec - Feb in Vail
 

Can anyone help/give suggestions for my 20 year old daughter who is going to spend her NZ summer university holidays working in Vail. She has found herself a job waitressing but needs furnished accommodation from 1st Dec 2005 to end of Feb 2006. She is so looking forward to visiting the States and meeting lots of new people but just needs some affordable accommodation to help her out She is studying Law and Arts at university in Auckland and is going to the States on a J1 working Visa. Thanks for any suggestions/advice. Jxt

Unfortunately, "affordable housing in Vail" is an oxymoron-- but there are surrounding communities that might be better bets, like Edwards and Eagle. Maybe she could babysit/nanny for a family and get room/board in return. Has she contacted Vail/Eagle chambers of commerce directly to ask them for leads?

Seasonal employees have a tough time for affordable accomodations in ski resort towns. The chamber of commerce is a good suggestion. She should also ask the restaurant where she will be working for some ideas. It might be willing to put her in touch with other employees. If she is working for Vail Resorts, she should definitely contact them about housing. I understand VR maintains some employee housing.

The Vail Daily is the local paper. It has classified ads in which people are looking for roommates.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the restraunt where she is working doesn't provide accommodation. She has emailed quite a few places but only seems to be drawing blanks at the moment. I was hoping someone living in Vail might read this and know of a spare room for 3 months!!!! She will keep on trying - something must come up.

Unfortunately, most renters want a full ski season commitment during the winter. Two months will be really hard to find. I have a name of a lady she could call, but I don't want to give it out online. Any suggestions as to how to give it to you privately?
This place is right on I-70 (bring earplugs! You can hear every truck!) but she may be interested in renting out a bedroom.

Still looking for suggestions folks, it seems real hard to get short term accommodation and I would hate for my daughter to miss out on this opportunity to work in the States.
