Kissimmee to beaches transportation

We will be coming to Kissimmee in July but will be without a car. Does anyone know if there is any type of transportation that can get us to a nearby beach. We are primarily coming to hit the parks and can get shuttles from our hotel to them. But my husbnad would like to go to the beach one day.

rent a car, even for one day, it should be quite cheap $25 day or less)--nearest ocean beach would be Cocoa Beach, about a 1 hour drive.

Thanks Jan.
How far a drive would Cocoa Beach be from Kissimmee? Can you rent cars from your hotel?

Oops sorry - just realized you said 1 hour from Kissimmee...

Check with the concierge at your hotel - they can probably hook you up with a car.

Carolyn,

Just a suggestion... While it is true that hotels usually provide free transportation to the parks, you would still be better off renting a car. I followed your strategy on my first trip to Disney in August 2000; it generally worked, but did put unnecessary constraints on our schedules. For example, a lot of hotels do not provide free transportation to the Sea World. Also, depending on your "evening" plans you could spend more money on taxis than you would on renting a car. Anyway, when we came back in August 2001, we rented a mid-size from Payless for $85/week. On that trip we went to the Cocoa Beach area twice: once to the beach itself and once to visit the space center in Canaveral.

Trust me, you don't want to be in the Kissimmee area without a car. I live in Orlando and wouldn't want to be stuck anywhere without a car! Priceline is getting daily rates as low as $15 per day in Orlando right now but I don't know what it'll cost in July. Whatever it costs, it's worth it to have a car!

I have been checking into some of the rental places and while I do appreciate all your suggestions for renting a car it seems that it will be quite pricey for us. I am going with my family and there are 6 of us. We would have to get a Van which would be almost $400 to rent for the time we are there.
Our hotel does advertise shuttles to the Disney properties, Sea World etc...so that is why we felt we did not need a car. We are close to Old Town so it appears we could easily walk to some places as far a stores and eating places unless I am wrong about what I am reading.
So, looks like I am back to square one again.

I live in Orlando and you really do need a car to enjoy yourselves. Even if you just have it for a few days thats better than not at all. Check www.hotwire.com. They have some amazingly cheap daily rates, even for a van. The Old Town area is kind of crummy now. Most of the tourist stuff has moved into the I-drive area. You know you could rent a full size car, a six passenger. An uncle of mine just visited her and got a Grand Marquis for $18 a day on hotwire. Goodluck! As far as beaches you can go over to Cocoa Beach or to Melbourne Beach in about an hour and up to Daytona Beach or to Clearwater in a little over an hour depending on how i-4 is moving that day.
