King William Inn/Williamsburg, VA
 

We will be going to Williamsburg in early September. Has anyone stayed at the King William Inn? It's supposedly within walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. What suggestions of "must do's" do people have for me? I live by Tampa so Busch Gardens is not on my list. Thanks for everyones help. :)

My boss & his wife stayed there a few years ago. Found it safe, quiet, clean, but nothing fancy. I go to Wbg several times a year, but have never stayed there, but it looks nice. Walking distance? Well, I would walk, but you'd better check the actual distance - I think many people would NOT be willing to walk, especially in inclimate weather. But a taxi shouldn't be very much, and the local transit company has public buses that pass the property. There isn't much in the line of nearby restaurants nor other stores/nightlife, etc., near the King William on Capital Landing Road.

For the rate you got, KW Inn will be fine. I would consider Busch Gardens Wmsbg because it is a very different flavor than Tampa. For one thing, it is laid out by the river and is quite hilly in parts, the landscaping is beautiful, and the "Old County" area theming is done well. I would recommend a short drive to Pierce's Pit-Cooked Barbecue for terrific BBQ in a real landmark, only place in VA with a permit to REALLY cook their BBQ in a pit outside! Yorktown Victory Center and town itself are worth a drive, also Jamestown - the National Park Jamestown. The Colonial Downs horse race track is about 30 minutes away, check their schedule at www.colonialdowns.com If you like amritime history, the Mariners Museum in Newport News is also about 30 min away, and has extensive exhibits - see www.marinersmuseum.org Have fun!
