Kimberley Hotel, NYC
 

Has anyone any experience with this hotel? Feedback? Thanks!

It gets very good reviews on tripadvisor.com It's centrally located in midtown on the east side. Most if not all rooms are "suites" meaning kitchen facilities and more space than a typical hotel room. The Affinia 50 is right next door and is also an all suite hotel that gets good reviews.

Thank you. I have been considering Affinia 50, Dumont, Kimberley, Shoreham, Sofitel - the main idea is that we need a suite or separate sleeping space for 1 person.

I'm not sure what suite accomodations you'd find at the Shoreham or the Sofitel. The others are "all suite" hotels which means they also have kitchenettes.

Of the ones you list, I think the Affinia 50 has the largest one bedroom suites in terms of square footage if that matters. But a one bedroom suite means the person needing the separate space is going to be sleeping on a pull out sofa in the living room. I don't know if I've helped. Depending on who the person is, you might want to try to find a setup with 2 connecting rooms. Some of these places may have a 2 bedroom suite which gives you 2 bedrooms and a living room. Don't know what your budget is though.

I think the Sofitel is probably the fanciest of the places you list. It would also be closest to the theater district.

Thanks, mclaurie. We don't need or particularly want a kitchen - and a sofa bed is adequate. My young adult daughter and I will be togther and we enjoy (almost) sharing a room - as long as we can sleep separately. Two rooms is not for us, in this case. Thanks.

My daughter, sister, and I stayed there; there were 2 beds (queen size) in the bedroom, and a pull-out sofa in the livingroom. STaff was excellent; we'd go back.

Thanks, luvmaine - I have booked the Kimberley. Is it close to a subway, do you remember? What is nearby in terms of little local amenities? Can we walk home from the theater - or from the Village - at night? Or take a subway and walk from there?

Not that we mind taking cabs, but the subway is so easy.

I believe there is a subway stop nearby, but I am not sure. Because my sister has a walking disability, we took cabs everywhere (and I must say that the cabbies were very nice about going short distances sometimes). There is a great bagel shop around the corner (can't think of the name but someone here will know--it was recommended by a poster here). It's a bit of a walk from the theatre district
and even more from the Village, but if you are walkers anyway, it won't matter (depending on the weather too). It's close to shopping on Madison and Central Park.

The Kimberly is close to the local 51st Street stop on the 6 train (the train that runs up and down the east side of Manhattan).

You can walk to the theatre district by walking due west. It will be several long, avenue blocks over. The Village is much more of a hike. I'd take the subway.
