kimamom, Monterey to Cambria
kimamom,
we'll be getting our rental van at the airport around noon and staying in Monterey the first night. We're booked for Comfort Inn Munras, 1 king, 2 double beds, suite for only $99. Also it's across the street from Whole Foods where we'll get a lot of our groceries for the trip. Next day we'll head down to Cambria, with our night booked at the Moonstone Landing for $150. Would love some help in the Big Sur area, especially how to get to the on-beach waterfall. We drove from San Fran to Santa Barbara 2 years ago, but this time will get to get out more often and enjoy it better. Thanks! I love you guys! Sharie |
The waterfall into the ocean is at Julia Pfeiffer State Park. I'm not sure that you can get down onto the beach. There's a short trail from the parking lot, under the highway to an overlook. It's about 10 miles south of Big Sur State Park and a couple south of Nepenthe. Going south, the park is on your left.

Do a search for the <b>McWay Waterfall Trail</b>(.64 mi RT). Or try one of these links:
This has a nice shot of the falls onto the beach. http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/hiking-trails.html Here you can click through to topo maps. http://www.waterfallswest.com/ca_mcway.html |
thanks to both of you for the info about McWay Falls! Clears up any wondering about whether or not we could get down to the falls.
Those links were great! |
Hi, sounds like a lot of fun, try to have a meal at either Cielo at the Ventana Inn & Spa in Big Sur or Sierra Mar @ the Post Ranch Inn, both are amazing with gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean. :)
I have not stayed at Moonstone Landing, but have read several reviews of those who have and everyone seems pleased. It is right on Moonstone Beach Drive and across from Moonstone Beach which is a gorgeous area, you will love the boarded walking trail that runs along the ocean. We like the beach area in front of the Castle Inn by the Sea, steps will take you down to the beach there. Let me know if you would any dining recs for Cambria, we have dined at many places there, with the exception of the Cambria Pines Lodge. Hope you have a great trip! ***kim*** ((f)) |
Hi Kim,
Would LOVE dining recommendations in Cambria. We're kind of limited though, by our budget (so nothing fancy) and by eating vegetarian. We LOVE Italian. Any good, cheap italian places?? thanks! |
There's a place called Mustache Pete's that's casual in Cambria. We love the Sow's Ear Cafe, they offer early bird dinners that are veyr reasonably priced. Robin's, Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill and Black Cat Bistro are also very yummy. Check out the Tea Cozy and Linn's Easy As Pie Cafe, also! ***kim*** ((#))

Here's a link to the article in the SF Chronicle on Valentine's Day that described McWay Falls. There's a picture there that you can click on.
