Kids on visit to Charlottesville, VA
Would like to go to Charlottesville for the a weekend. There would be 3 adults which is not problem, of course. question is, are there any activities in the area that children enjoy. Kids are 12, 10, and 8. They will enjoy Monticello and the university (they loved touring the US Capitol last Christmas) but we would like to know some more kid oriented things to plan.
Thanks. |
Monticello should keep them busy and Mitchie Tavern. I live in Washington, DC and I could spend days at Monticello.
Where are you staying? There are some nice hotels in the area. Jen |
Consider staying at Wintergreen Resort. You'll have to go up and down the mountain but there are a ton of family activities. I think it is about 45 min from Charlottesville. You can ask them.

Thanks. Wintergreen sounds good but what are some suggestions in town.

Omni is very good, and it is on the mall with lots of restaurants, shopping and walking right there. Heated indoor pool and an outdoor pool.
Hilton Garden Inn is further out but has good rates, esp. w/AAA rates, and is very nice, flat screen TVs, etc. Has a pool. However not a lot of dining options in that area. There's a Doubletree but it doesn't get the best reviews. |
I don't know if your stay includes a Sun. night but if so, Omni has a great Sun. night special rate now on their website. I just booked it. Also using AAA there gets you a better rate.

We went to Charlottesville a couple of years ago with our kids (3rd/5th grades) and enjoyed the Hardware Store Restaurant. It has a unique decor with a fun atmosphere...I remember the food to be good. Not gourmet, but a huge menu & great ice cream desserts, too.
