Kid's Night Out in NYC - FUN dinner suggestions
 

We are taking my 13 year old and 12 of his friends for a day/evening out in NY in lieu of a big Bar Mitzvah party.

We currently have a block of tickets for a Blue Man Group Sunday afternoon performance.

Now we need somewhere fun to go after the show where we can have dinner. I will either need a place that can accomodate our group together, maybe a private room (not necessary though), maybe something with some sort of entertainment for the kids.

We don't want to do a Mars 2014 or a Hard Rock type of thing - btdt.

Would love some suggestions.

Two suggestions:

John's Pizza on West 43rd. Really good pizza, fairly large space, not a problem with a large groups, and easy location for Times Square theaters. With a group of 13 teenage boys, pizza should be an easy call.

The other option, I know you said no theme, would be Jekyll and Hyde. A little overdone with just ok food, but teenage boys are their target audience.

ESPN Zone in Times Square offers private sky boxes and of course, plenty of entertainment on their game floor. I have been a guest in the sky boxes a few times and it was a lot of fun. The sky boxes overlook the restaurant and there are televisions in the room. There aren't any restrooms on the sky box floor but in my opinion it wasn't a disadvantage. The food is not gourmet but I haven't a met a kid who complained either. It's a good idea because the adults can stay in the skybox while the kids can go the game floor. Also a good idea if you have guys (or gals) in the group that are sports enthusiasts. The televisions in the sky box can be changed to whatever sports event you want to watch. We were never rushed when we there either.

A restaurant that can definitely accommodate a large crowd and is kid-friendly is America on 18th ST between Broadway and 5th. They mnight also enjoy something in Little Italy or CHinatown which isn't too far from the theater. For family style Italian (that also can handle large groups and is kid friendly with decent food), Osso Buco on Univeristy Place (I've had groups as large as 25 there). There's a very roomy chinese place (your basic chinese/japanese food) on Broadway and 10th st called (i think) Evergreen that I'm sure would also work.

Whatever you should decide, make a reservation in advance.

I think the kids would like th idea of having dinner in the village area (where the show is).

There's also a John's Pizza (the original one) on Bleecker St.

I agree with Merilee that they'd like ESPN but unless you're prepared to hire a minivan to get them there from the theater, I think MFNYC's idea of staying downtown is better.

Since it's a Bar Mitzvah celebration, I wonder about Sammy's Roumanian.

Two Boots pizza has a location not far from the theater.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Personally I love ESPN Zone - we had my older son there this weekend with a couple of friends.

Unfortunately this son is not into sports at all or ESPN Zone would be perfect.

Since we are coming in from LI and it is a special occasion we will most like have a limo or bus of some sort so travel around the city is not an issue.
