Kids activities in White Mountains during Foliage
 

My husband and I along with our 4 year old will be in Vermont on Oct 4 & 5 (Sun-Mon) ... We will then head to White Mountains area and will stay from Oct 6-9 (Tues - Fri) ... While in Vermont, we will visit the Billings Pumpkin Festival near Woodstock and the Freat Vermont Corn maze in Danville ... So that will be two days that include some kid fun for our 4 year old ... But for the 4 days in White Mountains, I am looking for some suggestions for some fun little activities (2-3 hrs each) for my son ... Was disappointed to know that Santa's Village, Attitash alpine slide etc are all closed on our dates ... Any good farm reco for apple picking?? Any other reco for kids activities?

Fryeburg Fair in Maine is one of the nicest agricultural fairs in New England. It's not far from North Conway NH. Check out the Hayseed Theater geared for children. During the week you probably won't see 4-H events. According to the schedule it looks like those are on the weekend. If you want to go during the quiet time, we usually go to a fair early. The midway isn't open. Usually you can get a good breakfast and there's a lot of activity around the animal barns as people ready barns and animals for the day. OTH you might want to include some midway time on small rides. This used to be my in-laws favorite fair but we've only been once. Very nice historical displays and demonstrations not usually found at fairs. A mid-week visit shouldn't be bad for parking on the fairgrounds but as you approach you'll see people flagging you to park in their yards. We parked on the grounds and still had a very long walk but exiting from a private temporary parking lot is much quicker for the car.

Storyland is perfect for a 4 year old unfortunately it is only open Oct. 10, 11, and 12 and then closes for the season.
The North Conway common has a decent small playground that can keep a four year old occupied for a while. The No. Conway railroad also operates out of there and it's fun to watch the trains even if you don't want to take a ride.

Storyland's web site says it will be open the 3rd and 4th too.

Yeah .. That is the unfortunate part .. All of these places - storyland, santa's village are open on weekends only ... We are there for 4 days during the week .. But leave on Sat Oct 10 ...

A small playground is a perfect suggestion. Our 3 and 5yo GDs love just playing on the slides and seeing other children.

Any known farms nearby for apple picking?

It's listed by counties: Merrimack is the Concord NH/central area, Belknap is the lakes region north of Merrimack, Carroll is further north (the mountains).Rockingham county includes the seacoast area. From reviewing the list of ones I know, you might skip those without a website since some small ones are really backyard operations. The list includes other things besides apples.
