ellenem - reallly? the most romantic restaurant and you can't celebrate over a glass of champagne? any ideas why? no liquor license? seems very odd to me to order a rib eye and not a glass or red to compliment the dish.

perhaps call the beekman if an adult beverage is part of the experience you are looking for. One page on the website suggests there is a bar and on the reservation page......
Dinner Monday-Saturday: 5:30 pm - 11:00 pm Sunday: 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm No alcohol is served at the Top of the Tower Restaurant. |
Excuse me!!!
I responded to your post on another topic so I'm not allowed to give my opinion on this one - a completely different topic? That's not how this forum works. If you don't like my opinion certainly free to ignore them. But I'm free to comment on whatever I like. And can't imagine why you wouldn't want responses from a native New Yorker who knows the city much better than some people who may have been here once or twice for a couple of days. |

That's the way I used to feel about Seattle but then I realized that a person who has only been to Seattle once or twice might have a better grasp of what appeals to one-time visitors than a person who has lived here a lifetime. "Touristy" may be a four-letter word to travelers, but not to tourists. At the same time, it is rude to ask for advice and then bite the hands of those who offer it. Unfortunately, graciousness is not the hallmark of our times. HTtY PS I thought the inquiry was a joke submitted by a troll. I don't know people who entertain children in bars and claim they are complimented by others when they do so. |
BigAlienStein, In the other thread, the OP commented that it sounded too touristy, based on a statement about selling tourist items since little else was mentioned. For me, TOTR is about the view. I did not want the OP or any other reader to misunderstand the level of touristiness.
Lookin_Glass, When I saw their plan to be at the UN that afternoon, I gave the top of the Beekman as a possible location only. I checked to see that it still existed and it looked like a possibility for an adult with a child. I was there years ago and enjoyed the view very much. At that time, they had a liquor license. I have no idea now, but I didn't bother to check what is actually served since I provided the link and figured the OP could read and decide. |
thanks ellenem. the website is conflicting, but it is something I will keep in mind to check out when I'm in the city.

btw - was it you that recommends Duo to me years ago? I recall it was the perfect place for our party!

Why not go to the revolving restaurant at the Marriott Marquis on Broadway. We went there about 5pm and stayed there until it got dark, (this was in November). We were initially just going to have a drink or two but ended up ordering the dessert and cheese buffet. There is a standard dinner buffet also as well as other menu plans.

This thread is hilarious. And highlights the need for the forum to have things like the ability to quite a post.

*quote a post.
And an edit feature would be dandy too. But limit it to 5 minutes. |

I do not know why say that. Just because someone thought Chuck E. Cheese was a bar with a view that was appropriate for kids and another did not think of the most popular tourist spots in NYC was not touristy? I must say that the restraint on this topic was admirable regarding a 10 year who is a regular at bars. I expected an explosion of self-righteous outrage. The truth of the matter is, bars in NYC are often intended or become a magnet one particular type of person or age group. Unfortunately or fortunately I do not know any S & M bars specifically for 10 year olds. |

It's New York -- there is probably one. |
