Kid-friendly activities in Miami and the Keys
 

I'm taking my kids (ages 8 and 15) to Miami and the Keys for 7 days. Both kids have been to over 40 states, but they're not interested in seeing stuff. They want activities & adventure! My son is scuba-certified and we plan to scuba at Looe Key. In Key West, we plan to ride bikes/mopeds.
Got any recommendations on kayaking? Everglades swamp tours? Snorkeling? Sailing? (as in where is the best place to do these activities)
Any recommendations on fun activities would be appreciated!

Mopeds are dangerous and please don't ride them in Key West. I wish I had a dollar for the wrecks I've seen happen.

Best snorkeling or diving:

Key Largo to Islamorada. Skip Key west for this but definitely snorkel at the Dry Tortugas.

Kayaking:

Bahia Honda State Park. Forget about this in the Everglades because May thru Sept/October is mosquito season and they will pick the meat off your bones.

We will be diving at Loo Key in 2 weeks. Did this last year right after Katrina and could not see 10 ft in front of us. Hopefully it'll be better this year.

Waverunner rentals are all over the place but kids need ot b 16 to actually drive them

Please don't rent jetskis. They are such noise pollution.

Most of the Everglades airboats are on the Tamiami Trail (SW 8th Street heading west out of Miami). You could easily combine a boat tour with a bike ride at Shark Valley. Shark Valley is a 15 mile loop that winds thru the Everglades. You'll see lots of gators and other critters. There's a tram if you prefer that. The other Everglades choice is to stop by the Florida City entrance on your way to the Keys. There is a 1.5 mile boardwalk called Anhinga Trail - again, lots of gators and other life. Search everglades on this board and you'll get good descriptions of both. Looe Key is a good dive spot and is also good for snorkellers so you can all go on the same boat. Be sure to stop at Robbies (mm 77 bayside) on your way down so you can feed the wild tarpon.
