I will we traveling to Keystone in 3 weeks with my two children, ages 5 & 11. We have rented a car and plan to drive from Denver to Keystone, but recently I have become really nervous about driving in the snowy conditions (I have never done it before). Should I go ahead and rent the car or take the shuttle bus? Or am I just being nervous for no reason.

If you have never driven in snowy conditions,IMHO,I would not do it with your kids in the car.I am from Calif and really avoid driving in winter conditions.I am not used to it, and I have found that driving in snowy conditions of any description take a lot more concentration awareness and alertness.Take the shuttle.The shuttle drivers know all about the driving.You'll enjoy your trip a lot more.<BR>BB

I drive the Denver airport to Keystone every year and have never had a problem. You've got interstate and the Eisenhower tunnel, so you don't have to go up over the divide. (Granted, I'm from Minnesota and grew up driving in winter conditions).

Make sure you rent a 4 wheel drive. If only for your peace of mind. You shouldnt have any problems.

Went to Keystone about 5 years ago and drove home to Arvada in a blizzard. It was very slow driving but it didn't feel dangerous.

I should add, for what it's worth, that I grew up in Wisconsin so I am also comfortable (usually) driving in snowy conditions.

If you're really worried about driving up from Denver, take the shuttle. If you want to have a car at your disposal in Keystone, you can arrange to rent one locally. Hertz has an office at the Frisco transfer station from which I've rented in the past. Also, remember that the Summit Stage runs between all the towns in the area and is free, so you may find that you don't really need to drive much at all while you're there.

I have beem going to Keystone for years and I never drive there. With 4 people the decision to rent a car or take the shuttle just about breakeven financally. And not to have to worry about the drive in questionable weather pushes it over the edge. You don't need a car in the resort.

Sara,<BR>Take the shuttle. Julie's right in that you can rent a car once you're there if that's what you decide. There's no reason to make yourself a nervous wreck worrying about the weather beforehand--yes, the mountain roads can be tricky in bad weather. I'm a born and bred westerner who's used to driving in all kinds of weather and I'd hesitate setting out on winter mountain roads with small children along--especially if the road is unfamiliar. Enjoy Keystone--it's just a fabulous place. Did you know there's an ice skating rink in the middle of the village? Lots of fun!!!
