Keystone Booked and need suggestions
 

Hi everyone!

Just booked our trip to Keystone for Winter Break (Feb) and wanted to get as many tips as I can. Where to eat...can I make reservations in advance for ski school/ good restaurants??? Any free fun things to do with kids when NOT skiing?

I don't think you'll have too much trouble staying busy. If you booked through the resort, you will get the Mountain Passport free. It includes a long list of activites. If you booked through a private party, you might want to look into getting one or more. Check the website for what's included.

While a bit on the pricey side, two of my favorite "special" family activity dinners include the Fondue Restaurant at the top of the mountain (it's a fun ride up in the dark and they give you blankets to keep warm)and the sleigh ride dinner out by the old ranch.

For a special romantic adult dinner, don't miss the Ski Tip Lodge. It's my favorite.

Well good for you! As I mentioned in the other thread the Adventure Passport has lots of activities, free if you booked through the resort about 40.00 if you did not, worth it even for the kids night out!. My Favorite restaurants for Adults are Fritz Alpine Cafe; they have a web site, and Ski Tip. You will want to make reservations. For the family Keystone is panning on putting in an Italian style place were Piasonos(sp) was, typically the Keystone owned restaurants are pretty good. There is a pizza place in River Run. The Great Northern is good for families too.
You can and should make ski school reservations on the web page.

Keystone is kind of out of the way. While Breckenridge and Vail will be fun to visit you should expect to drive about 30 minutes.

If you have a car you can go to the Silverthorne rec center. The water slide is a blast... You can buy a single visit pass. And do go to the lake to skate...

You should go to the Dillon/Silverthorne outlet stores--there are many, many stores within walking distance of each other. Coach, Gap, Victoria's Secret, J Crew, many others.

I would make reservations for ski rentals (if you are renting) ahead of time--that way you can avoid some of the lines.

Since you have a car, GART sports rents skis a lot cheaper than the resort does.

Coskier, have you ever done the sleigh ride dinner? My daughter and I did it last spring and it was really fun. We went on a perfect night and the stars on the way back were incredible.

Grasshopper, I have not. Your post did make me think that next time we have guests it would be fun. How old is your daughter? Do you think really young kids would like it? Say 5 years old?

My daughter's grown but yes, there were plenty of small kids. It's quite informal, BBQ, indoors, propane heat. The only downside is that if you have a small party they seat you with a larger one and I got stuck across from a 5 year old with ADD. I needed a 6 shooter. A lot of the kids went out to play in the snow after they ate. (my table mates hands were too cold).

Wow, you sure booked early. Not sure where your staying but your hotel/condo should be able to help or there's also plenty of info on the net. We went to Keystone last Feb. and had a great time. Enjoy!

I know...I checked with Delta about airfares and saw that they were selling out...none available on the day the kids get out of school...so we're booked for the next day. Also, checked with several owners I found on the web and many were already booked. Apparently I am going the peak week as it is Pres's weekend. We'll be staying on several days past it so hopefully the crowds will thin out. Staying at Sivler Mill condo right in River Run.
