Has anyone stayed at the Cheeca Lodge in the keys? How was it?

There are a lot posts on this. I stayed 2 years ago and really enjoyed it the quality of the lodging, great food and beautiful setting. Loved relaxing in the lounge at night and sitting on what is as close to the beach as you'll find in the Keys. What bothered me was that everything was "extra" from the par 3 golf course to borrowing a fishing pole to use on their great pier, to the kayaks to the gym. Meanwhile, next door at Moorings, guests use kayaks free, play tennis free, etc. In sum, it's no value but I would return and recommend to others.

Cheeca is lovely. They changed their pricing recently and add a $40 per room "resort fee" to the cost of each room. This covers the cost of tennis, golf, fishing poles (not bait), use of kayaks and the like. See the website ( for more details. If you go, be sure to spend at least one sunset at the Morada Bay restaurant across the street. If you are a part of all grownups, dinner at Pierres (also across the street) is a real treat.
