Key West visit

My wife and I are taking our daughter and her fiance to Key West for a mini-vacation. We would like to stay somewhere near Duval St. but don't want to stay in the noisiest section of town. On a previous visit, our daughter and her fiance stayed at a place called "The Douglas House" and loved it. After doing some preliminary checking of our own we found that it got mixed reviews from good to bad as most places do. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Great location, 1 Duval, and it has its own small private beach.

We stayed at the Marquesa a couple of years ago and loved it. It's really charming with great service - close enough to Duval to walk but without all the noise. They have a nice pool as well.

We stayed at Jasmine House in December and were very happy with it.

For a real treat, take the suite with the patio and hot tub. Here is a shot from our trip: http://www.mightymac.org/06keywest09.JPG

We stayed at Island CIty Hotel--a couple blocks from Duvall, but an easy walk. Lovely compound of several distinct houses and beautiful gardens.

The best choices are the Marquesa and the Gardens Hotel but they can be pricy... the Marquesa has a couple of great rooms together with a shared deck that you can breakfast on... it overlooks the "quiet pool" ... oh to be there right now, sipping....sorry, just had a flashback...

The Gardens and Marquesa Hotels are great. Island City House also gets really good reviews, but it's child-friendly and occasionally someone will be bothered by kiddies taking over the public areas. There's a Westin (formerly a Hilton) on the Gulf, and the Ocean Key Resort (a Noble property) is next door. I haven't stayed at the Westin, but the Ocean Key is Great. The Hyatt Resort and Marina, just down the street, has been undergoing renovations and is getting rave reviews. I stayed there before the remodeling and loved it then.
