Key West travel tips?

I'm planning a Key West trip in April where my brother is getting married. I'm going along as the "third wheel".

1) We've got an opportunity to stay at a nice condo in Marathon for $80/night. Our favorite band is playing Margaritaville all week. Is there a better way than a $100 taxi trip back to Marathon in the wee hours?

2) Is there anywhere near Duval St. that the three of us could "share" a room (with some privacy) where we don't have to pay the Hyatt $600/night for two rooms. We want something nice, but not extravagent. Are there B&B's with more than one bedroom and/or a couch?

Thanks for any advice!!

Steve, use the search~~~~~there are so many places to stay in Key West. Type in Key West B&B's or Key West hotels, this should help you more than somebody listing tons of hotels.

May I ask you how you are getting to Marathon? Have you considered renting a car? I am sure you find a car rental place ie: enterprise and drive down to Key West. If it is drinking and driving you are worried about than the three way split of $100 for a cab would be worth it.

Have a SAFE trip and a great wedding.

As Carol says, there ought to be LOTS of options available to you for staying in Key West rather than Marathon. We always stay at the Galleon (a condo next to the Hyatt with weekly rates), but it's still pretty expensive. Try checking out keywestparadise.com for accommodations - get something in Old Town. If you don't care about being in the center of activity you might consider the Sheraton Suites, which is on the Atlantic, but apparently has a sleeper sofa in the living room area. Someone on Fodors said they booked a room there (I think through priceline) for $55 a night, which is outrageously inexpensive. In any event, I think it should be pretty easy for you to find something in Key West that won't break the bank and that will afford privacy to you all.

As far as getting back and forth from marathon you will either need to rent a car or pay some outrageous taxi fee. I would look for something in Key West. Sheraton gets nice reviews and is fairly reasonable. The 55 dollar rate was for mid Dec (slow time)I think, so dont expect something that cheap. In addtion to the site Susan gave you also look at Keywest.com. If you want to be close to Duval Street get something in and not near Old Town.

I agree about staying in Key West. There are very reasonable places to stay all over Key West. Try keywest.com/guestinn. Also see my post below under "Most spectacular drive" for more reasons to rent a car & drive down the Keys. A great experience!

I just stayed on Marathon and although it was nice I would definately stay in Key West if I ever went again as that is where the action is! Spend the extra $ and stay in Key West.

Try the Shaeraton Suites in Key West . We stayed there and it was nice. A door can close off the Living room(sofa bed) , from the bedroom. The price varies according to season, so check them out on the web. I think they also have a AAA discount if you have a auto club.
