key west sunset cruise
We will be going to key west for 5 days at the end of August (2nd time there) and were thinking of doing one of the sunset cruises that includes drinks/some food. Any recommendations? - Danger Charters looks highly rated.
Thanks! |
We just returned a couple of weeks ago and did the Sunset Champange Cruise on the Dolphin Echo.
http://www.dolphinecho.com/ It all depends on what you are looking for. We wanted something more quite and romantic. Our cruise had 4 people and a 2 man crew. 4 bottles of champagne to share and wine. There was a fruit tray with cheese and crackers and a artichoke dip. We saw other boats with tons of people and it looked to partyish for us. On our research we found Danger Charters to be recommended several times. We used this site to help make our decision: http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/sunset_sails.html |
Thanks KVR. While my wife and I are wine drinkers, we are not really into champagne. When it gets closer, I will call both Dolphin and Danger to get more info.
Thanks once again. |
We sailed on the Schooner Appledore, wine, champagne, cheese & crackers, a guy singing sea chanteys. Husband helped host the sails. Fun.

There is a new boat in Key West doing sunset sails, the Idylwild...
http://pjk.smugmug.com/Travel/Key-We...13_5VSzz-S.jpg She is associated with Sebago so you can get information from their telephone # (they have not updated the Sebago web page yet). She is moored at the Galleon Resort at the end of Front Street and does a nice snorkel / sunset sail combo for about $45.00, and a sunset sail with food for $55.00. The captain, Jeff, has a nice Facebook page which is updated almost daily describing the trips he has taken, weather and water conditions, etc. You can also get info re the schedule by asking there. I did two trips with the Idylwild last week and will make it a regular trip each time in Key West. Pjk |
Oh and keep in mind that the Appeldore is not in Key West all year long. If you think you want to go out with her, check the web page to see if she is there.

Thanks all for your comments. Can't wait to go!

As I think of things, I'll post 'em.
The first is that Sebago does a Power Adventure (jet ski, parasail, kayak, lunch, etc) and the Island T'Ing (snorkel, lunch, kayak) I prefer the latter as it is more laid back, but the former is very popular. If either of these are of interest, check their web page as they generally offer a fee sunset sail with either. And Fury was running a "free on your birthday" offer for many of their trips - snorkel, parasail, Commotion on the Ocean sunset, etc. I think this is still going on. Pjk |
We did the Segabo catamaran sunset cruise with snorkeling. We went out mid-afternoon, stopped for about 45 minutes of snorkeling, and then rode back in as the sun was setting. Best pictures I've taken in a long time!

Floridays did a very nice cruise for us.

We ended up going with Danger cruises. Had a very nice time. They gave us $10 off each just because we called ahead of time and asked if there were any discounts available.
They served 4-5 white wines and 4-5 reds, all you could drink, plus cut up cheese, crackers and veggies. Also offered beer, soda and water. Service was excellent. Only disappointment was with the weather. Somewhat cloudy so the sunset was not great. Also, we ended up cruising under power since there was very little wind even though the sails were all out. We did not go far from the harbor and were in sight of land the whole time which was not what we expected, but I guess that was out of their control. All in all, very nice, but I probably would not do it again. |
Just a head's up. Danger runs three boats; Danger, Danger's Prize, and the Sarah. They use Danger's Prize for the Wind & Wine sunset sail and for the all-day snorkel / kayak trip. If you do the all-day trip, and since they rarely use up all the wine from the previous night, check the big cooler just amid-ships. It is generally filled with up-scale wines which are up for grabs during the day.
