Key West Resturants
I am going to Key West in August. Any suggestions on good seafood resturants? Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions! They are very helpful.

Forget Turtl Kraals. The food was greasy, small portions except for the huge piles of undercooked rice & black beans, and the service was horrible.

We have just returned from our third trip to Key West. All the meals we had were great: steaks at Duffy's that were better than Ruth's Chris and other overpriced steakhouses, great broiled seafood at Turtle Kraal (yes, with cuban sides of rice/black beans and plantains -- I love them!), and really wonderful homemade pasta at Mangia Mangia. I had a superb spinach fettucini with scallops -- I can still taste it. delicious. Enjoy your trip!

I like a lot of the restaurants already recommended to you by others. I also enjoy "Mobster Lobster" on the 600 block of Duval. We share their steamed seafood platter and it is always great.

Although Alice's at La -Te-Da is not a "seafood" restuarant, I had the best seafood of my trips to Key West there. Definetly wonderful! Also, I've seem to go to Mangoes on Duval Street for lunch everytime I've been there. I've never been there for dinner, but I really love the place and they always have some great seafood on the menu.

How about Louie's Back Porch - is it still open. I was there a few years back and had one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. Pricey but well worth it both for the food and the view.

The best seafood we had when we were there in May was at Bahama Mama's. My husband had the blackened grouper and I had shrimp - I can't remember, but I think they were blackened also. Also, the sides were great, especially the shrimp cakes and crab and rice.

We also enjoyed Alonzo's Oyster Bar - good food and a great place to eat outside.

Almost all the restaurants post thier menus - walk around and see what sounds good. Have fun.

Bahama Mama is good. Turtle Krall is good (despite one vote to the contrary). I prefer Turtle Krall's at lunch, rather than dinner though.
Louie's Backyard is way overpriced and over hyped. But they do have a great view. it's also a little too shi-shi for me.
(Check out Camille's for breakfast. GREAT place.)

Alice's is great--expensive but well worth it. Also greatly enjoyed the Cuban food at Pepe's near Mallory Square although I liked their meat dishes better than the paella.

Cafe De Artiste'

Is the best restaurant in Key West - it is expensive and dressy - reservations required. But the best and if you like lobster get the Mango Lobster - to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This restaurant has been written up in magazines and newspapers.

IF you need the correct name, street address and phone number - I have the business card at home, I can email or post it on wednesday.

But I guarantee that you will love this restaurant. I am going in October and I will definitely go there!!

If you would like more casual, there is another place on the strip, I will get you that too.

Have a great time!
Janie :)
