Key West Questions
 

We have made a reservation at the Key Lodge Motel in Key West, has anyone heard anything good or bad about the place? Also, does anyone know the name of the restaurant on Sunset Key that is part of the Hilton resort? <BR>Any opinion on which seafood restaurant is better, A&B Lobster, Conch Republic Seafood Co., etc? <BR>Thanks!

I checked my guidebooks on the Keys and the place is not listed and I have never heard it mentioned here. The place could very well be a dump.

No, Sunset Key is wonderful. You take the ferry over from the Hilton and the restaurant is on the water and the food and wine is spectacular. Prepare to spend the evening however, because service is not fast - everyone seems to be laid back -- but it was very high up on my favorite list and the atmosphere couldn't have been more appealing. Do it. <BR>

I wouldn't equate the Key Lodge Motel with Latitudes, which is the restaurant on Sunset Key. A&B Lobster is a really good restaurant, too. Why did you pick the Key Lodge Motel? I've been to Key West two or three times a year for the past several years and wouldn't consider staying at the Key Lodge Motel.

We picked the Key Lodge because it had a reasonable price for the rooms and the place looks fairly decent from their website. I'm most concerned about it being decently clean. No bugs, mildew or funky stuff. Have you stayed there or just heard things?

I double-checked with someone who lives in Key West about the Key Lodge Hotel and she said it's not in a very good location, and is "really old and very out of date." She did say, however, they have a good sized pool and have parking if you will have a car. The owners also own the Hampton Inn. I'd sure advise you to get closer to the gulf if it's at all possible. If you don't want a hotel, there are lots of B&Bs.

If you are looking at inexpensive try the Fairfield Inn. It is clean and reasonable.

Just a warning - if you plan to stay to stay somewhere with a pool, it's advisable to make sure it's a freshwater pool. There are saltwater pools in KW, especially at some of the older motels. I personally enjoy salt water swimming in the ocean but don't care for it in a pool.

Thanks for the tip, actually I am looking into the Duval Inn B&B on Angela Street. It is closer to the action and about the same price. <BR>Anyone hear anything about the Duval Inn?
