Key West/Marathon, FL
 
We are planning a 7-day visit in July to Key West, FL but are staying in the Marathon area. We'd like to know the best "family" things to see and do to avoid wasting money! Also, welcome restaurant recommendations and any other tips you might have for this area.

Make this clearer for me. Do you mean family things & restaurants in Key West and not Marathon? And what dates in July? Who is in the family?

Why are you staying in Marathon if this is a Key West trip? That doesn't make sense.

Most things there are to do in the Florida Keys are "family" things.

the better question is: Why are you bringing up a thread from 2006?

BTW, Marathon is 50 miles from Key West so is not a good place to stay to visit Key West.
