Key West Lodging, offseason deals?

4 Friends are going to Key West in August and want a place "near the action" (west end of DuvalSt/Mallort Sq.) as opposed to out by the airport. The Hyatt on Front Street can reportedly be had for $85/night on Priceline, but that was a rather old post on biddingfortravel.com (since they got "hacked" recently and lost some data). Does anyone have experience with Priceline for the Hyatt or the Hilton in Key West? I am also wondering if we would get placed in one of the "vacation club" units (most out near airport) if we tried a bid for a "reseort" category....Please advise.
Thanks!

If you want a place in Old Town, you're just going to have to start calling.

To try to get one, in Old Town, via Priceline is a real long shot. Most often, what used to come up are Casa Marina (and its cousin) at the other end of Duval.

There are two things you could do. Start calling now, for the dates and configuration you want, and make reservations at a property that best suits your needs.

That said, what I'd probably do, seeing as it's August, is go down there cold. No reservations. Stop in at the KW Visitor's Center (just as you come off the bridge onto the island,) go in and get suggestions.

Thank you so much, bookhall!
I am glad I asked b/c I don't want the "other end" of Duval.
The Visitors Center is a good idea if we are brave enough to "wing it." We'll start calling....

Key West is almost becoming a year around destination.

Because of festivals and conventions, I'd at least book a back up reservation.

The El Patio is usually inexpensive.

If you are driving, pick up the hotel discount books at the Rest Centers along the interstate. These can provide the best deals out there.
