Key West Jan. 26-29, 2001 Help!!!
If this was your first time to Key West and you wanted the best picks, what would they be?

I am staying at the Courtyard on Roosevelt...

thanks! :)

There are LOTS of good places to stay in Key West in all price ranges, but for the best I wouldn't stay anywhere on Roosevelt Road. I'd stay in Old Town.

Got it! I just got a killer rate at the Courtyard...

Where would you go for drinks, snacks, entertainment, renting scooters, having a great fun night....

Thanks!

There's so much to do in Key West - you'll have a great time and no trouble finding fun! Go to the Hemingway House and Museum for a tour. If you have time, you can check out Truman's Little White House or any one of the other museums (the Shipwreck Museum, the Aquarium, etc.). Rent scooters and drive up the Atlantic coast for a bit - see some of the house boats. But when you're ready to have fun, head for Duval Street. Duval Street is to Key West what Bourbon Street is to New Orleans. Hit Diva's for a fun show. Have a drink at Sloppy Joe's and another one at Hog's Breath Saloon - they're only about a block apart. If you want to splurge on dinner - go to Alice's at La-Te-Da. It's always wonderful. Kelly's (as in McGillis)Carribean Grille has a beautiful setting, plus we had great food there, too. Blue Heaven has roosters (the "Key West bird") running around all over while you eat - kind of fun - great for breakfast. Crabby Dick's and Mobster Lobster are overrated (imo). If you like Jimmy Buffett, you can visit Margaritaville. If you're into nude sunbathing, there's the Atlantic Shores Resort, although it's hard to know what the weather might be like - it's been a little cooler than usual they say. Trust me, you won't have any trouble at all finding food, drink and fun! One thing though, "tolerance"! Leave your hangups at home (if you have any).

You can't help but fall into fun in the Keys!
Just get out and walk - Duval Street, Mallory Square, Land's End, etc. Fun will find you.

Hey! Just got back Sunday from my annual trip to Key West! What a blast. This year we went snorkling on our own at Fort Zach (and caught 3 nice sized lobsters that we later had as appitizers before dinner one night, we visited the Lighthouse museum (across the street from Hemingway's house), went parasailing, had a sunset cruise on the Western Union, and the best was the all-day-trip to the Dry Tortugas! WOW! What a cool national park, fort and great swimming/snorkling. They (Sunny Days) gave us everything (breakfast, lunch, snorkel gear, a tour of the fort and snacks on the way back...but it is allll day 8:00am - 5:00pm)

Wait....the best was the Dolphin swim at DRC on Grassy Key...that was an experience! We flew into Miami...so we planned this on the way back up the day before we departed. It is well worth it! They give you an educational seminar on dolphins, history, behavior, etc. Safety instructions and profiles of the dolphins we worked with.

We spent a solid 5 days and were not bored at all!

Have a great time!

**I would suggest staying in old town though...we stayed at Eden House on Fleming street...only 6 blocks from all the action and we walked everywhere!**

Sheli

Sheli,
Give more on the dolphins please. What is DRC? Any tel numbers. Did you need reservations? Thanks

metoo:

DRC is the Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key, Florida, (MileMarker 59 on US-1)

They are a not-for-profit research center that has tours, internships, volunteer programs, etc open to the public. Here is their website:

http://www.dolphins.org

You have to make reservations for the Dolphin Encounter program that we particpated in (their website explains it all) There is limited room and only 2 sessions a day (they only take 12 people per session)

Hope this helps!

Sheli
