Key west in the summer
We are planning to do a 2 week stay in Key West with 2 kids, next August, 8 and 11 years old. We'd love to find a place to stay close to a white sand beach, with view would be wonderful, but the prices are very upscale... <BR>Please give us a hint if possible

Sorry, but only man-made beaches in Key West. Also in August you need to be concerned about Hurricanes -- get trip insurance.

It will be very hot in Key West at that time of year...even on the beach. There are beaches there, but small and man made. The largest man made beaches are on the Atlantic side. Check out www.keywest.com and look at the lodging options.

The beaches on Key West are pitiful. And I think you and your kids will grow restless on that little island for 2 whole weeks. Maybe think about spending some time on the mainland at Miami or Fort Lauderdale or Fort Myers for nice sandy beaches and more for kids to do. Rates for hotels should be pretty low on the mainland that time of year.

I was in Key West for 5 days last July. I loved it and had a wonderful time, but 2 weeks might be a bit much. The beaches are not too impressive and located far away from the majority of the restaurants and nightlife in the town. It is definitely a pool town as opposed to a beach town. We stayed at a B&B right off Duval Street called the Ambrosia house. It was wonderful, and there are some rooms that would be appropriate for kids. Just a suggestion.
