Key West in March or April

My wife and I are wondering if there is enough to see and experience in Key West for four or five nights in early spring. Never been there. We are in our 70's, will not be fishing or doing anything strenuous ... just relaxing, walking, and hoping to see interesting attractions. Food and drink are very much secondary. What do we have to spend for an average room in a well-located hotel/resort?

Well, Key West is a Spring Break destination, so you might want to go in April. I was there only for a couple of days, so can't tell you if there is enough to do for four days. But things to see/do include, the Butterfly and Nature Conservancy, Secret Garden, 1846 Key West Lighthouse, Heritage House, and Key West Aquarium. Try to go on a sunset cruise and eat fresh seafood.Since it is a resort destination you'll pay $400-600 per night.

Hi Dietger

It’s been a number of years since I’ve been to Key West but I spent 4 nights when I went and I did not find it at all too much. I do like to bicycle though so that did open up more of the island to me for exploration. I enjoyed the various beaches I visited Smather’s Beach, Higgs Beach and Fort Zachary Taylor Beach. Heritage House Museum (Robert Frost Cottage, Tennessee Williams was there), Hemingway House and the Key West Cemetery were places of historic interest; I didn’t even see the Truman White House. But more than anything, it was the energy I appreciated most especially once you got away from the sometimes mobs from cruise ships on Duval Street and Mallory Square (although those could be entertaining in doses). Given what you’ve written about what you’re seeking, I’d give it a shot and go! Daniel

If you stay in the Historic District, most places of interest are within walking distance. We enjoyed strolling all about and highlights for us were visiting Truman's Little White House and the Hemingway House. We stayed at what is now called the Kimpton Winslow's Bungalows which was not deluxe but perfectly fine. I just checked and rooms seem to be available mid-April for the low $300 range.

Would love to go to Key West for a week! Been to long since I visited for me to say any more than that. If you don't think there is enough in Key West proper, maybe you could include some of the other keys?
