Key West in March - Need Advice
I am planning on taking a ferry from Marco Island to Key West. We would take the ferry down one day (takes about 4 hours), stay overnight and then return to Marco Island the next day. Has anyone taken this ferry? I am not crazy about boats and I am not sure if I should be nervous or not. The other question I had was the Ocean Key Resort Hotel was recommended because of its location to where the ferry boat docks, its looks like a nice place but "looks" can be deceiving. They are running a special on the boats right now so I need to decide soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't taken this trip in a few years. It is a long trip and a tad on the boring side. Also, depending on weather conditions, it can be rough due to choppy water. I have heard that some outfitters have switched to different types of boats which make the trip shorter and less bumpy. |
We stayed at the Ocean Key last month and loved it-rooms were very nice, service was excellent. We had a 1BR suite overlooking Mallory Square and the water.Sunsets could be watched from your own balcony. They have a nice pool here too overlooking the water. You'll love this hotel and its location.

I had checked into this awhile back but they had stopped it in the summer. Is this the boat that leaves Ft. Myers and then picks up people in Marco before going on to Key West? How much is it during this "special"?

You'll love the Ocean Key Resort, so don't worry about it at all. It's one of the best places to stay in Key West. However, the boat trip gets varying reviews depending on the weather. When the seas are calm, it's apparently a very nice trip, but with rough seas it can seem awfully long! I think you're making a wise choice by spending the night in Key West.

I highly recommend Ocean Key Resort. We stayed there a few years ago for Christmas and absolutely loved it. Had a one bedroom suite overlooking Mallory Square (3rd floor), decor is colorful and tropical! Staff was extremely polite and accommodating, too. You have a pier to sit on to see the sunsets, or you can walk right outside your hotel and be a Mallory Square in no time. I got the best pictures right from our balcony. You see all the boats going by all day long, especially about an hour before sunset. Magnificent!
