Key West - Hyatt or Hilton?

Looking at both hotels with comparable rates. Which is better for ambience, comfort, location? Which is better bang for the buck? Thanks.

Hyatt. We loved it and choose it after some great advice from this board. Perfect location with a little beach, nice pool area and a room facing sunset.

I would go with the Hyatt. It is smaller and has a more intimate feeling than The Hilton. We haven't stayed at either because we like b&bs but the Hyatt gets the better reviews.

I stayed at the Hyatt and while I wasn't overly impressed, nothing really to complain about but also nothing really to rave about. While staying there, I was wondering if I should have stayed at the hilton, which looked nicer and in a better location (but both are close to everything--5 minute walk to view the sunset at hyatt vs. 1 minute from hilton)...go with whichever has the best deal. eat at pepes and blue heaven though.

I like The Hyatt. The Hilton seems to busy to me. Lots of people walking aimlessly around.

The Hyatt. Both are are the same street and very near each other but the Hyatt seems to get many more favorable reviews.

While they are both in great locations I too would have to lean towards the Hyatt. One of the biggest complaints it seems with the Hilton is many of the ocean views are blocked daily with cruise ships that have also been known to dock overnight.

Here's another vote for the Hyatt. The only advantage the Hilton has is the food, which in my opinion is much better than the Hyatt.

We hated the Hilton. We checked out and ended up staying at the Ocean Key Resort. It was wonderful and right in Mallory Square.

I wouldn't pick either. Part of the charm of Key West is the unique/funky B&B's etc. If you would like more of a resort feel....pick Ocean Key. Located in the general area as the Hilton & Hyatt, but further away from the cruise ships & more of a "Key West" feel. Just my 2 cents

Maybe it's because I'm kinda nosy (leave it alone!) but I liked looking out from the Hilton at the ships docking and passengers coming and going. We also enjoyed the hotel and where it's located. Good luck with your decision!

We're planning on staying at the Hyatt Windward Point Resort. Condo due to taking our children. Anyone have any info on this Hyatt???

susan Jan 23rd, 2003 10:36 AM

The Hyatt Windward Pointe is in a lousy location near the airport. If you want a nice Hyatt condo, look into the Hyatt Sunset Harbor. It's in a great location near the sunset celebrations, restaurants and tourist activities.

What's so terrible about it. The key is only 2mi X 4mi at most.

joebob Jan 23rd, 2003 10:48 AM

Terry- the thing that makes it a bad location is that to do anything KW has to offer (except flying home) one would have to drive (and then try to park) or ride a scooter or take a really really long walk to go to the majority of KW's attractions. Whereas staying in a better location, one could reasonably walk to everything. Part of the charm of KW is that when staying in the old town section you can walk or bike to everything.

I just got back from Key West. The Hyatt looked like it was a better location than the Hilton to me. Of the four days we were there there was a huge cruise ship in front of the Hilton everyday except one. I too enjoy people watching but that big ship blocking my sunset view would get old real fast! We stayed at the Ocean Key Resort and loved it! We had a room overlooking Mallory Square and the Sunset. If you go when the weather is warm keep in mind those balconys facing west will get very warm! We had record cold weather while we were there and our balcony was comfortable. If the weather had been warm it would have been unbearable!

Have fun!

AT THE HYATT YOU CAN GET A GREAT ROOM WHICH FACES BUM BEACH. THE STENCH OF URINE AND UNBATHED HOMELESS PEOPLE REALLY MAKE THE PRICE OF THE HYATT WORTH IT.
