Key West Hotels/Motels on the beach?

What places are there to stay in Key West that are directly on the beach? I'm mainly looking for under $200 a night but all reccomendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

What beach in Key West?

shoutlouder Jun 8th, 2006 05:27 PM

Any really. A friend reccomended South Beach but I am open to any.

There are no "real" beaches in Key West - and very few in the Keys.

Miami has great beaches. If you want "beaches", do Miami or South Beach.

What time of year? Even during the slowest months something under 200 might be hard to come by.

There is a part of the island with a few big hotels that are not on a beach but directly across the road from one, I think there is a Sheraton and a Best Western on that end. You might be able to get a deal through Priceline.

Thank you, I did hear that about the beaches in the Keys.

And I'm looking to go sometime in August.

South Beach is Miami. Key West really has no decent beaches. Do you really know what you are asking for??
If so, there is an area called South Beach in KW but it's not much beachwise and the few places to stay there really wouldn't be in your price range.

Thank you for the information, and yeah the South Beach i was referring to was the area in Key West, not Miami.

I have heard there aren't great "beaches" in the keys but I just wanted to see what my options were on the water.

There are a couple of B&B's on south beach in Key West but they are really pricey. I think they are called the La Mer and The Dewey House. This site might help you a little more.

Oh. The first time I went to Key West I wanted a place "on the beach". I reserved the Holiday Inn, which was not located where I wanted to be, AND the "beach" was sand dumped at the water's edge.

For Key West I think you need to think more "city" than "beach". $200 is not a lot for Key West.

roy, I checked the Fodor's Destinations and map and there is indeed a "South Beach" in Key West. Who knew?!?! Well, the OP did :-)

But, Key West is a city-in-the-tropics location - not a beach destination...at least in MHO.

The South Beach in Key West is at the end of Duval Street. Not the sunset side.

Great location on 1 Duval Street, and it has a small private beach that is a lot of fun.

As someone posted you can stay at the Dewey House or La Mer or the Southernmost hotel which are pretty much on the corner of Duval and South Streets. Not a bad location. If you do this you can rent a chair at the Duval Beach Club for $5.00 / person / day which isn't too bad, or for the same amount you can use the pool across Duval at the Southernmost House. (I've heard that their property is still showing signs of damage from Wilma.)

People have stayed at the Sheraton Suites or the Radisson or Doubletree and used Smathers beach across the street, but staying at these places puts you far from the action at the Mallory Docks of Key West Bight. (The Doubletree runs a free shuttle back and forth).

The alternative is the Pier House at 1 Duval which has a small but nice beach. (I stay there) But a room would be more than 200.00 / night. A good room, 2nd floor garden view would be 255.00 + the 11.5 % room tax. Figure 300.00 / night.
