Key West hotel/motels

We would appreciate any recommendations for hotel/motels for one or two night stay in Key West for mid February. Our budget is for a mid-range priced accomodation for seniors.

At the same time what are some of the "must-see" or "don't go" places in the area?

Thank you,

No such animal as mid priced hotels in Key West in mid February. Not only is it peak season but it is peak time in peak season.

Take a look at the El Patio Motel and The Southernmost Hotel. A room anywhere in town will run you around $200 per night.

All of the keys will be expensive that time of year (Miami boat show, President's Week).

GoTravel,

Since we'll be in Florida from mid-January until early March, any day to visit Key West is as good as any. Basically, we're trying to book a hotel/motel on a day where there is no cruise ship in port since we were advised in this forum that it could become quite busy in town. As seniors we would prefer a quieter period. Checking on the following site:

http://www.gotothekeys.com/key_west_...p_schedule.htm

it seems that Wednesdays are quieter i.e. our planned visit in mid-February. Would the end of January be quieter and less crowded?

I would call a couple of hotels that you are looking at directly and ask them when they are will have discounts.

They can tell you which times are less crowded and since you are flexible, you might even find last minute specials.

Look into the Best Western Hibiscus. It's on the Atlantic side of the island and will be unaffected by the presence of cruise ships. It's a mid-range hotel and gets great reviews.

Having said that, if you don't like walking, it may be a bit far from the "action" of Key West for you. Please do NOT worry about when the cruise ships are in town. Those people only walk up and down Duval, and there are much more interesting places to be in Key West - Key West Bight, for example.

Thank you for your suggestion to use the BW Hibiscus but it just so happens that an hour prior to reading your reply, we had already booked here. Excellent review on TripAdvisor.
