Key West Day Trip
We are going to KW the end of February for four nights. I would like ideas for a day trip of sailing/snorkeling that comes highly recommended. There seem to be so many choices: full day, half day, sunset, back country...and many companies. Any advice?

I can highly recommend Floridays...it docks at the Hyatt. Our snorkeling trip was half a day; I'm not sure if they do full days trips. I haven't taken a sunset sail with them but I have heard very favorable reviews.

You need to be aware that snorkeling and diving out of Key West have gone way, way downhill conditions-wise. The locals say it's the cruise ships, and I have no reason to doubt that, because the reefs these days are absolutely nothing compared to those of 10 years ago. I snorkeled there recently and it was heartbreaking.

If you want to experience GOOD snorkeling, go about 30 miles north to Looe Key reef, accessible by boats from Big Pine Key and Little Torch Key.

I have only snorkled three places - Molokini, Lahaina and Key West. I knew enough not to compare Key West to Hawaii but the snorkeling was bad. The ride in the sailboat was fun but they should have paid us to snorkel. I wish I had known about Looe Key reef.

The day trip to Fort Jefferson is really worth the time. The snorkeling around the fort is pretty good!

We went snorkeling out of Looe Key. It was great(except for those that got seasick). It was a ride to the natural preserve -3 different stops. Beautiful fish, coral and other sealife. You'll love it.
