Key West Accomodations recommendations -- on a budget!!

My husband and I are planning to take a short trip to Key West in January. We're looking for a place to stay -- and we're on a budget. We don't have a preference for type (hotel, B&B, Inn, etc.) It just need to be clean and comfortable!!

Any suggestions are apprecitated!!

For a general idea of what's available, check out keywestinns.com Generally speaking the two least expensive hotels in Old Town Key West (which is the most desirable location) are the Best Western Hibiscus and the Southernmost Hotel.

The location is terrific. Just around the corner from the marina and a 5min walk to Malory Square for the sunset celebrations. The rooms are clean, the pool and grounds wonderful where they offer a terrific breakfast each morning and a cocktail hour every day 5 to 6.

Days Inn was the cheapest we found in Key West last January. Check for their internet specials. It is connected to the Waffle House. Not right in town, but if you've already got a rent a car, it'll work. Worked for us.

Cindy, I would think that Comfort Inn would be a good choice, I was just checking their website today ....choicehotels.com.......and they serve a nice breakfast , included, rate shouldn't be more than $70 a night, we're going to go some time next year

Can anyone shed some light on the crowds in mid to late February? We were wondering if the Spring Breakers took over and the crowds become ridiculous?

I think you are safe from spring breakers until March. We stayed once at a place called "Spindrift Motel" and it was VERY reasonable. The rooms were clean (nothing fancy) and there was a nice courtyard pool (reminded me of Melrose Place). The location was FABULOUS - you could walk to everything. I just did a google search and it is still around (I believe they get a lot of repeat business).
