When we traveled to the Keys two summers ago, we found a place in Key Largo that sold Key Lime CAKE. I know the original post was regarding Key Lime pie, but this cake was outrageously good and far surpassed any of the pies we tried down there. Sorry I don't know the name of the bakery that made the cakes - has anyone else been lucky enough to run across it down there? I'm sure Fran's husband would love it!!

I won't be going on a key lime pie tour anytime soon (but what a great idea!), so does anyone have a really good key lime pie recipe to make at home??

Yes, and its very easy to make. I'm to busy to post it for a week or 2, however. If whoever cares could remind me sometime after the 20th I'll put it up.

Guaranteed to be the best key lime you ever tried.

Just back from Abaco in the Bahamas. We weren't there specifically for key lime pie, but I can tell you that Anglers Restaurant at the Abaco Beach Resort makes a damn fine key lime pie!

Merilee: Thanks for the recipe. I plan on giving it a try this Memorial Day Weekend. It seems simple enough that even I may not mess it up!

forget what everyone else says. My mother makes the best key lime pie - so incredibly rich that a small sliver is all one can endure.
oh, wait, she doesn't sell her pies. nevermind - BUT! don't ever EVER eat key lime pie with whipped cream. Meringue only. Also, no regular crust - graham cracker. Anyone who tells you differently is a mere cretin. I did find a good klpie on key Largo at the Shell place close to Tavernier. It was located in the median of US1. Many years ago now - so it may be gone. also, it was homemade in those days. Probably purchased from a dessert firm in Kansas these days. Mom got her recipe from an Old Conch when we lived in Key West in the 50s. I've tried the receipe, but it wasn't successful. Of course, bread won't rise or indoor plants plants grow either if I'm involved. Good luck and happy hunting!

I will second the Joe & Nellie's Key Lime Juice recipe. I use it all the time, to rave reviews!
PLEASE trust me on this one:

The Lorelei Restaurant in Islamorada has the best key lime pie on earth! Seek it out and eat it! Its incredible... Worth planning a trip around. I one drove down from Jupiter for a slice.

I'm in the planning stages of our trip to the Keys. Going in Feb. We will spend a night in Islamorada on the way to KW to break up the trip and try the pie at the Lorelei Restaurant there. Then on to KW for three nights where we will be sure to try the Blonde Giraffe's KLP. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
