If you are looking to spend time at the beach be advised the beaches in Key Largo are not very good.

Actually, I am looking for an alternative to Key West or Miami. Any suggestions are welcome. If anyone has knowledge of other "Keys choices", please share.

For a great relaxing and casual dinner, check out the restaurant at the Mandalay Marina MM 97.5

Its right on the water (nothing fancy) and there was even a Jimmy Buffet singer (at least on Sat night when we were there). I had a stuffed grouper which was wonderful. It really felt like Margaritaville.

The Westin on Key Largo was very nice, although a little further from the action than some. Snorkeling off key largo was fun.

a hotel to hang out at while you're in Key Largo or a place to sleep and depart from in the a.m.? There are only a few decent hotels in Key Largo, Marriott probably the nicest but Key Largo is really best to go out on a boat from. Totally different than Key West of Miami. There's not much to do on the island but on a boat there's loads of wonderful things.
