key largo

We are planning a summer vacation to Key Largo. Where are the best places to stay. There will be no kids and we want a place on the water.

George, <BR> <BR>Here are some websites you can do a search on. We have never stayed in any hotels or B&Bs but have heard great info on Ocean Point Suites. If you can get to the Key West board, & look at the postings on some of the lodging, you will be able to decide whats best for you & your family. Hope this helps. <BR> <BR>http://www.travelbase.com/auto/guides/key_largo-fl.html <BR> <BR>http://www.floridakeys.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.thefloridakeys.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.flausa.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.fla-keys.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.keysnetwork.com/ <BR> <BR>http://keystreasures.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.flkinfo.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.flhotels.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.travelbase.com/ <BR> <BR>http://www.keysdirectory.com/ <BR> <BR> <BR>http://www.travelscape.com/ <BR> <BR> <BR>http://www.vrbo.com/vrbo/flkeys.htm#Key+West <BR> <BR>http://floridakeys.net/ <BR>

Don't know about Key Largo, but the Moorings in Islamorada is nice.

I agree with Hilda...the Moorings is wonderful. I think you'll find a wider variety of places to stay in Islamorado than Key Largo.

I'll wait by the shore <BR>To find you once more....

My parents always stay at the Howard Johnson's in Key Largo. Not overly costly, rooms are clean, nice pool, small tiki bar and tiny beach with kayak/canoe/waverunner rentals.

Maybe it's just me, but I never feel that Key Largo is really a part of the Keys--maybe it is because of its' close proximity to the mainland and it is more commercialized than Islamorada. I find Islamorada wonderful, laid back and with the feeling of how the Keys used to be. Plus, there are good restaurants in the area.

While I'll agree with Ginny more or less, her post seems to imply that Key Largo has no good restaurants, which is not true. Actually, I would rate the Sundowner as one of the best in the whole Keys, and the Quay is also an excellent restaurant. Frank Keys Cafe aslo gets good revues (although I've never eaten there). All in all, I think there are more restaurants on Key Largo to chose from than on any other Key except Key West.
