Kentucky, Tenn, NC, in November
 

Good Morning, <BR> <BR>We live in upstate NY. We are a newly married couple in out mid-thirties with no children. For the first time ever we are driving for a vacation. What are interesting things to see and do at this time of year in these parts? <BR> <BR>Thanks.

I think the highlight of the entire area is Biltmore at Asheville, N.C. It is the largest and most spectacular private residence ever built in the US and the closest thing we have to a true castle. The Smoky Mountains are interesting and scenic. Gatlinburg is the height of tacky, but might be fun.

Kentucky is one of the most overlooked vacation destinations. It will not be as beautiful in November as other times of the year, but there are so many things to see all across the state. One of our favorite things to do is tour a bourbon distillery. There are several, but the best and most beautiful location is Maker's Mark distillery in Loretto, Ky. They are very interesting places; no tasting like in the Napa Valley, but so interesting. Also, Natural Bridge State Park, Cumberland Falls, Kentucky Horse Park, Georgetown Toyota Plant, Mammoth Cave National Park, Bowling Green Corvette Plant and the State Historical Museum in Frankfort. <BR> <BR>I am from Ohio and I'm always surprised that more people don't know about what an awesome place Kentucky is to visit.

It is too bad that you are not going to Ky. in Oct. You must go to Keeneland Race Course! It is racing as it was meant to be. We still dress up in coats and ties, and dresses and hats! A beautiful track and so much class! Ky. is a wonderful place to visit in the fall. Shakertown in Danville is like stepping into the past. Great food and pristine lodgings.

I'm in Bowling Green and they have stopped tours of the Corvette plant in wake of the 9/11 attacks. The National Corvette Museum is still open and frankly shows you more than the plant

Don't forget Mammoth Cave!
