Kentucky Derby

Would like any help on lodging and tickets for the 2005 Derby. Seven of us would like to make it our first. Should I book rooms now ? How does one get tickets ? Thanks

I don't think that it would hurt to line up a hotel now.

As for tickets, reserved seats for the 2005 Derby are sold out. However, Churchill Downs has some reserved seats available. You submit your ticket request online at their website

Sometime in late September, they will hold a lottery for the remaining seats. You may be drawn or you may not. There's no guarantee. If you're not drawn, general admission is available on race day.

I appreciate races much more during the replays. During the live runs, I'm always afraid that someone's going to fall.

I've been a horse racing fanatic for 17 years now, but everytime I plan a horse racing related trip, things go wrong. I planned to go to the 2000 Breeders' Cup at Churchill, but my friends had to cancel at the last minute. I planned to go to the 2002 BC in Chicago, but my mom lost her job and we had to save the money. I planned to go to the BC last year at Santa Anita and throw San Diego in for good measure, but a family illness caused me to have to cancel. Any other vacation that I've planned has gone without a hitch. Maybe I'm not meant to see a racing event live.

Kostroma was one fine turf mare. It must have been my first horse racing trip when I bet on and saw her win the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington Park in 1992. Kent D. was up, odds were generous at 5/2. I've since seen the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, English Derby, Royal Ascot, Donn Hcp (Cigar), Japan Cup, Preakness, the Hong Kong International Races, and the B. C. at CD along with racing in Brazil and Argentina.

Kostroma's win in the Beverly D was so much fun that I decided to skip going to the Arlington Million the next day.
