Kentucky Derby 2016
We are wanting to go to the 2016 Kentucky Derby. We are horse enthusiasts but not millionaire. Any advice about the best equine experience, a good around Derby experience, with more emphasis on the horses and less on the parties? We are not opposed to any of the social events, just cannot afford to spend like the executives we are not.
Any suggestions re hotels or ticket packages would be most appreciated. We would want to stay as close to the Derby as possible but we are looking for some advice from experienced Derby folks. Thanks. |
Look at making reservations now if you really are serious about attending next year. We have friends who go every year and have already made hotel reservations.
Highly reco that you manage to get tickets for the stands for a civilized experience - no matter the cost. The infield is like a college frat party |
I heard the infield is a lot of fun. But if you want to wear a big hat & high heels, probably not so much.

Skip the Derby, it's a madhouse, and go to the Keeneland races in Lexington the month before. It is a much better horse track experience.
|
But there's only one Derby. I was fortunate to be able to attend the 100th, courtesy of tickets from my boss. It's a memorable occasion.

American Pharoh has won the Preakness Stakes today on a very muddy track. One more win on June 6 at Belmont and we'll have the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed.
American Pharoh won by 5 lengths today. |
