Kennedy Space Center with kids

My family and I are planning a trip to the Orlando area in early April. We were thinking about visiting the Kennedy Space Center with our two kids, ages 6 and 3. My 6 year old has a pretty good interest in space, planets, rockets, etc. Is it worth the trip? Will my 3 year old be bored?

It is possible your 3 year old may get bored. If you do have the extra time, it is a good educational experience for your 6 year old since he will be learning about the space program in school soon. They did have a man dressed in a space suit on the grounds, a space shuttle that you could see and touch, and moon rocks on display. Some of the previously open buildings have been closed to the public due to security reasons. There are alligators living in the streambeds all along the highways and swamps surrounding the Kennedy Space Center. We saw several while riding on the shuttle buses between buildings, and also from the telescopes.

You might check in the gift shop to see if they have any freeze dried ice cream. We got that for our kids at the Johnson Space Center in Houston years ago & it kept the young ones happy.

Your three year old may like to see the rockets, but that will wear out quickly. I do think it was worth our time and the admission, but my youngest was 7 at the time. Wait and do it when your children are older. Instead, drive west and visit the beach on the gulf.

Kennedy is best for a middle-school child. In fact, many schools in Florida take field trips there during middle school. So I think both 3 & 6 y.o. would probably be bored.

We took ours when they were, I think, about 4 and 6. I know my youngest was still in preschool. This was a long time ago. Both of them enjoyed it. However, I probably would not recommend it for a 3 year old. There is a huge difference in attention span between 3 & 4.

When we were there was a very long time ago because the children are now out of college and on their own (more or less). I took photos that sat in the camera for 6 weeks until I rushed them into the camera shop after the Challenger destructed upon launch. We had a photo of the kids in front of the Discovery and a shot of the Challenger on the launch pad. . . .
