Kennedy Space Center
we are going to orlando in next week and thought about touring the Kennedy Space Center.
Has anyone done it and what suggestions for tours do you have? My husband and i are both in our early 50's - no kids with us this time. Thanks |
Kennedy Space Center is a wonderful destination. Although there are many tours, the basic one is just fine.
It's actually our favorite tour. |
The standard tour covers a lot of ground, and takes several hours. Get there early to make the most of your day. One of the things we like the best was listening to an astronaut answer questions.
Oh, and eat a good breakfast. The food is overpriced especially considering the quality. |
I'll just agree with the post by Patq
Been there twice; enjoyed each tour about equally; mediocre overpriced food. Get there early as the day goes by fast, and last time I went there was no discount for a 2nd day admission. |
If you are a science museum member, check to see if your local museum is in reciprocity with KSC. You might be able to get in for free.
|
We also did the second tour out to the launching pad facility. It was ok, but for the added expense it wasn't necessary and you didn't get "into" it, just within about 50-75 yds, IMHO. The regulation tour alone is sufficient. Although we did get a much greater appreciation for the roads etc. and specifics needed to get the Space Shuttle to the correct positioning locations.
Massive doors etc.- engineering info. is interesting within itself, beyond the Space applications. |
the space center is something to see once - for sure. I was surprised how much time we ended up spending there with our group, and none of us had special interest. I agree the food wasn't a high point. Liked walking around the rockets out in what I recall is called the rocket garden
