Kennebunkport lodging

Any advice for a hotel in the kennebunkport area for a couple of nights under $100...preferably one with a kithchen? We will be there the second week of July '03 with 2 little ones and need some suggestions...First time to Maine...can't wait!

perhaps Beechwoods Resort.......look it up very rustic

You're smart to shop early. It's doubtful that you'll find anything large enough to accomodate four people with a kitchen during July, however! Call the CofC and request literature, then shop like the dickens. You'll find more possibilities in nearby Wells. There is ONE inexpensive motor inn in Kennebunkport, booked up a year inadvance usually. Don't know if they have kitchens.

You're nuts to expect anything like that in Kennebunkport. Even if there were anything suitable "under $100" no one, NO ONE, would disclose that on this forum.. You're gonna have to do your own research.

Yikes! The busiest week of the season!

Try the N'er Beach Motel in nearby Wells-Moody. Other possibilities: The Wells Moody Motel, The Seagull Motor Inn, or the Kennebunk Gallery Motel (in Kennebunk not Kennebunkport).

Try looking at the Maine Innkeepers Association website at maineinns.com. Lots of infomation on lodging throughout Maine and you will find many listings for Kennebunkport and Wells, most with links to the individual property websites so you can see prices and rooms. Good Luck. I agree you will find more of a variety of lodging in Wells and it will most likely be less expensive. Wells is only a short drive from Kennebunkport.

I have to agree, Kennebunkport is very high class, and you never find anything under 100$. We were lucky to find something for 200$. Try somehere else, that's for sure!!!!!!

Martha Aug 12th, 2002 07:30 AM

"High class"?
Kennebunkport was one of the most touristy places I've been on the east coast. The place was bursting with trinket-y shops and busloads of tourists.
The Hamptons are "high class".
What??? Aug 12th, 2002 01:43 PM

Kennebunkport is hardly filled with "busloads" of tourists.
And socialites/wannabes that are both liquored and stuck up do not constitute high class.
I agree that Kennebunkport is not the best place to be searching for inexpensive lodging, especiall the busy weeks in July. You would be hard pressed to find anything under 100 in the off season as well.
Try going up to Portland. Close by to many beaches, and has the chain hotels that tend to be lower priced and family oriented.

alice Aug 12th, 2002 02:13 PM

Martha you obviously didn't see the ABCTV documentary on the Hamptons. High class? Snobby maybe, but little class.

There was one high class trendite who plowed her car into a mob of other trendites trying to get into a bar however.

Go to KBport during leaf peeping season.
There are quite a number of tour buses clogging the streets and parking lots.

carol Aug 13th, 2002 05:32 AM

I meant high class accomodations, and I have never seen " bus loads of tourists", however, my only point was you NOT find something for so cheap, that's all.............( chill, some of you!!!!)

The Colony Hotel is an old, grand hotel that sits right across the street from the ocean. You can get a "garden view' room for $180/night but I have to warn you that the garden view rooms are housed in separate buildings away from the main hotel. The main hotel is lovely, but the garden view rooms were very "motel-like" (not my style at all). I agree with the rest of the folks who replied to this topic. You have to spend fairly big bucks to get a nice place in Kennebunkport.

jeff Aug 17th, 2002 10:42 PM

What about a place called Village Cove Inn? Is that a nice place or a dive?

Local Aug 18th, 2002 06:16 PM

Well in Kennebunk (town next to K'port) only a short drive to Kport.. There is a place called the Seasons Inn. (I have put my in-laws here several times) It has pool for your kids. It is under new ownership in the last two years and is pretty nice motel. It is a little out of the way ( on Route 1) Easy access to Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells

Why not pick up the phone and call the Chamber of Commerce for assistance? They will send comprehensive literature. And, they're familiar with all the lodging possibilities and can offer advice. As others have mentioned, lodging in Kennebunkport is very pricey. Your options are much better in nearby Wells Beach. Note that the first two weeks of July are the most popular of the entire summer and rates are at their very highest. Many places have three-night or more minimum stay requirements.

Just stayed at the 'Elmwood resort' in wells...not far from kennebunkport...it was about $150/night but was very nice and was like a one bedroom apartment (very nice kithcen included)..also, they have both and indoor and outdoor pool, along with a little playground.
