Kennebunkport in November

Planning to go to Kennebunkport within a few days for two nights, one weekend and one weekday. Would like to wing it without reservations and cruise about and check out the places before making a decision. Is this possible/practical at this time of year or would we likely end up sleeping in the car?
Also, are there enough restaurants, shops, etc. open to make the 3 1/2 hour trip worthwhile?

Forgive me, but I have to: when you do go, say hi to the Bushes for us!!!

Not a definitive response to your question, roy, but whenever my family has driven through Kennebunkport well before Christmas {we have relatives there}, it's been beautifully lit up and decorated. The town doesn't appear top be "asleep".

Anyone out there able to be more specific in answering roy's question?

your sure to find something, if not in Kennebunk, then Wells or Ogunquit, which you would want to spend some time at anyway...I like the Yachtsman, so many choices, you'll do fine. Maine diner is great for bisquits and gravy for bfast, and their seafood chowder, amazing! White Barn Inn, if you're looking for something special, it is wonderful.....have fun and explore the coast, it is amazing!!!!!

You shouldn't have any trouble finding places to stay and restaurants as Kennebunkport pretty much stays open until after Christmas. Christmas Prelude is the first weekend in December, and I believe the decorating begins right after Thanksgiving. The shops in Dock Square are great for shopping, and you will find lots of information here about restaurants, inns, etc.; just do a search. If you need info about specific places, let me know. The quiet time in Kennebunkport is January, February, and the beginning of March. The times you would not go there without reservations would be May, June, July, August, September, and October.

Back from Kennebunkport.
Definitely didn't need reservations. Not much open but what there was, wasn't even close to full. Plenty of choices. Stayed at the Yachtsman and would definitely do so again. Great location and room. Right on the river and walking distance to the Square. Quite a few shops open but many restaurants closed. Couldn't try the famous and much praised Clam Shack.
Ate at Allisson's and Federal Jack's. Both good but not great. Really good breakfast spot is All Day Breakfast in the lower town.
George and Barbara weren't in town...too damn cold.
