Keep hubby happy in Tucson
Help! Help!
I've talked my husband into coming with me to the Rock and Gem show in Tucson in early Feb for three days, I told him there was "lots to do" on his own. Any suggestions? He'll have a car. Also are there any good barbecue restaurants? We will both be going to Kutchner Caverns any ideas for any side trips places to eat? Thanks, this forum was a great help when we went to Morocco please don't fail me now! Calgary, Canada |
You don't mention his interests. I would get a guidebook and hand it to him

Rent a recliner and a big TV and have them delivered to your hotel room? That would make my H happy.

Pass this message to your "hubby". Plan your own activities. Use these boards if you wish. They can be very helpful.

Tell us more of his interests. Does he golf??
Here are a couple of websites for places that are a must when in Tucson http://www.desertmuseum.org/ (Can spend a whole day there) http://www.pimaair.org/ (This is really excellent a must see) Give us more ideas of what he likes but these two places alone can take up most of his time. The only barbecue restaurant that I know is good is the El Paso Barbecue restaurant on east Broadway. There are lots of others but have never been. Maybe someone else can help there. |
If he's a history buff, Tombstone is about an hour's drive away. It's a little touristy but it's still the place where the Earp's and Doc Halliday did in the Cowboys.
There is also another thread on this forum http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...-to-tucson.cfm where several ideas about how to spend time in Tucson have been discussed. |
The pima air museum sounds great, he doesn't golf but is into restoring old cars and likes historical buildings and hiking (but probably not all day) Is Saguaro national park a far distance from downtown Tucson? Thanks so much for all the info

There are two units of Saguaro NP. One is to the east of Tucson, the other to the west. I've been to the eastern unit and it is an interesting drive/hike through Saguaro studded lower Mojave desert landscape. I have not been to the western unit yet but if your husband goes, please post his impressions here. I'll be there in late February and am interested in that area.

Thank you for that and yes we will post our trip when we get back

Check out my list of things to see and do around southern AZ. You will find lots of things -- and my list has clickable links to the attractions, so you can do a virtual tour:

A casino south of town. Not Las Vegas, but not bad.
Tubac, the art community south of town is a good spot. Sabino Canyon is an excellent hike. As little or as much as you want. You can even take the tram up the hill and have an all down hill hike. Several services offer desert bicylce trips. The hotel can recommend their favorite. Daytime temps should be very warm compared to Calgary. Most of the resorts have superior pools. He can pull up a chair and generate solar power. |
Mike - there you are. I was going to recommend reading your blog but I couldn't find it. Glad you posted - your recommendations are invaluable.
