Kayaking in Ketchikan

Does anyone have any suggestions of kayaking companies/excursions in Ketchikan this July? We would like it to be away from the immediate docking area of the ship and scenic too. We will be on a ship docking there from 6am-1:30pm so it can't be more than a few hours. Plus I'm not sure my 16 year-old daughter is good for much more than that!

I'm also going in July, so I haven't used them yet, but Southeast Sea Kayaks comes highly recommended over on www.cruisecritics.com

I have gone with Southeast Kayaks a couple times, well run company. Look at their Orca Cove trip, if you don't want to be kayaking up Creek St and along town. Do NOT expect any wildlife and certainly not any orcas despite the name. :)

BQ, I beg to differ.

I live in Ketchikan and wild live is everywhere. Just take a moment to look. Orca cove was named that for a reason. Plenty of black bears during that time. Keep an eye out, because the blend very well. Don't forget to look up, you are garantueed to see at least one eagle per day.

Remember that there is much more to Ketchikan than downtown. That's just the cruise ship dock. Most tour companies usually also prefer to take tourists to areas that is relatively easy to get to and that minimizes their risk of complications. There are millions of acres of wilderness around you.

I have kayaked here several times. There may be a lot of wildlife for locals, who are there all the time. But on these 4 hour tours, if you read the many many reviews on message boards, have very little sightings of wildlife. Yes birds are seen, but you in no way have to go on a kayak trip for them, they are everywhere. (birds are wildlife- yes)
