kayaking in Kachemak Bay
I will be in Homer for two days in August and am somewhat interested in the kayaking that I have read about. However, I am wondering what level of physical fitness is required. Is this too much for two 55+ people whose main form of exercise is a treadmill?!

As long as you have strong arms you will be fine. Your age has not much to do with your physical fitness

Kayaking is just about for anyone. :) Contact operators and inquire how their "tours" run. You won't want to choose a marathon operator who challenges everyone to a race. :) (just kidding- any operator will have tours based on the customer's abilities)

My family went kayaking for the first time out of Homer this May. The kayaks are very stable, and easy to paddle. We took the 1/2 day trip with St Agustines, had a wonderful guide and calm waters in protected Perterson Bay accross from the Spit. If you do a search on this site you will find other highly recommended operators. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

We're 60+ people and had a great time kayaking with True North Kayak Adventures in Homer. We decided to do the 3/4 day trip which turned out to be plenty for us. The guides were very helpful and informative. Homer is great. Have a wonderful time!

We also used True North Kayak Adventures in Homer and were very happy we made a right choice.

Thanks for the responses. We decided to go with True North on their 3/4 day trip. Alison was very kind to respond to several questions via e-mail. Less than two weeks and counting.
