Kaui for our honeymoon
 

Hi everyone,<BR>I am getting ready to book our week long honeymoon to Kauai for early September. We were quoted a price to stay at Kauia Coconut Beach Resort, compact car, and RT airfare from LA. Price we are paying=$1,485.<BR>I have only been to Honolulu four years ago and wanted something different for our honeymoon. This will by my husbands first trip to Hawaii. Question is has anyone heard of this hotel and if so what are your opinions on it. It seems like such a good price. It is near the Waipouli beach. Miriam, I believe 20 years ago we stayed here for our honeymoon in September. We first stayed on Oahu in a nice newer hotel that is now a Marriott property on Waikiki. I can not tell you how disappointed we were when we got to this place. I don't know if it was becasue we were coming from a better hotel or whether it was becasue this really is a crummy property but the one thig I recall was the distinct oder of mildew that permeated the halls and rooms. Here's what the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook says about this place in their most recent edition:<BR><BR>307 rooms, tennis courts, room service, restaurant, conference room, cocktail lounge, pool and spa, and a lu'au on the premises. A tired, neglected resort owned by the Pleasant Hawaiian Holiday people. It was for sale at press time and had been for almost 20 years according to the staff (sounds like it's time to fire the realtor) and morale, maintenance and the overall look displayed a lack of commitment. The rack rates are beyond ridiculous but few pay them. (Most guests have packages.) In short—get a good bargain or go elsewhere. Their beach isn't very swimmable. Rooms (384 sq. ft) are $150–$210 (oceanfront rooms are larger).<BR><BR>There is a reason you are getting a good rate but I wouldn't spend any money or time on this place. Find out if there is somewhere else you can stay. Also before you go you should pick up the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook for good ideas.

get a condo on the North Shore in Princeville on Hanalei. Would never ever bother with Kapaa for a honeymoon. A condo will allow you more privacy and the comforts and space of home.

Too bad too.<BR>Nice bar/restaurant area.<BR><BR>Honeymoon at the Hyatt, Princeville or the Marriott, Embassy, Sheraton if it's within your budget. <BR>Hopefully, a honeymoon will come along only once in a lifetime so you may want to splurge?<BR><BR>If you want to stay on the bit more inexpensive Coconut/East Coast of Kauai, the Beach Boy (between the CocoBeach Resort and Islander on the Beach) has been remodeled within the past yr or 2 and they probably have specials from time to time. I had to put my two cents in about the Coconut Beach Resort. My wife and I were there on own honeymoon last year (6/16) and it sounds like we booked the same package (airfare, car rental, hotel about same price). Everything people said about the resort is correct. It is run down, faded, the beach is absolutely terrible, the hotel staff is about as courtesy as a fire ant hill, good luck getting enough towels, and about the equivalent to a Holiday Inn in Biolixi, Mississippi. However, if you are like my wife and I, it really didn't make a lick of difference, because we spent so much time out on the island that the hotel was the farthest thing from our mind. It served its purpose in that it had four walls, a locking door and a bed. If the hotel is important to you, then don't stay there, but if you are more interested in inexpensive accomodations that are centrally located then it is ok. <BR><BR>However, regardless of where you stay, make sure you attend the Luau that the Coconut Beach Resort puts on, it is fantastic!
