Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City Transportation

Heading to KC on Monday, staying at the downtown Marriott. Have tix for Royals game Monday night. Is there a way to get to Kauffman Stadium without a car? I'm guessing it would be easy enough to catch a cab going there, but what about coming back after the game? Would I have to call for a cab for the return trip, or do they line up at the stadium? Alternatively, is there a bus that runs between downtown and the stadium?

Also, where exactly is the dividing line between KC, MO and KC, Kansas? I want to make sure I set foot in both states! Again, will I be able to do this without a car if I'm staying downtown?

It looks like the #47 bus runs from downtown close by the stadium. It runs every day except Sunday, but it apparently stops running in the early evening, so for an evening game you could go over but take a cab back (a day game anytime but Sunday could well afford bus travel both ways). Note well that I'm not sure if the bus actually stops at the park or not -- I'd strongly recommend calling the Kansas City Metro (816.221.0660) to see if it does.

There appear to be several bus routes that run from Kansas City, MO to Kansas City, KS. Here's a link to the system map:

I live in the area and getting around without a car is pretty challenging, in my opinion.

Oddly enough, the state line between Kansas and Missouri is a two-lane street, at least in the area closest to downtown and is an actual street...State Line Road. Near 39th & State Line there is an area of antique shops and some fun restaurants, and it would probably be fairly reasonable cab ride from downtown.

I would take a cab out there and call the stadium and ask their advice for the ride home. (816-504-4040 or 1-800-6ROYALS) I live here, so have never had to pay attention to whether there is a cab line or not, but generally, it's not a cab kind of town.

Regarding setting foot in Kansas: are you looking to do something there -- eat, etc. -- or do you just need to cross the state line to mark it off your list? Either way, you'll need a cab, but it's a short ride.

Thanks Kit. Good info. Re: Kansas, I do want to check it off my list, but if there is something specific or interesting you can recommend, I'm all ears. (Again, keeping in mind I won't have a car and will have to rely on public transit.)

Just saw your question--didn't make it to Kansas (the state) because there just wasn't a good time to do it. My husband was working in the mornings, and then there were company events in the evenings. One night, the company had a private party at the Power and Light with Huey Lewis and the News providing the entertainment-fun. In the afternoons, we went to the Negro League Museum, the Jazz Museum and the Steamship Arabia Museum. Ate BBQ of course. Went to Boulevard Brewery too (one of our highlights!). We made it to and from the baseball game via cab. We weren't sure we would get a cab back, but we just hoped for the best, and it worked out. Enjoyed the trip!
