Kauau North Shore Help
Family going to Princeville in March, and we would love to take one of the Napali Coast sails? Has anyone taken a sail or cruise during March? I've learned the surf is usually very strong during the winter months, so I am concerned about booking a trip. If you have taken a sail, which company did you use? I hate the thought of having to drive all the way to the south shore area to depart? But it seems that most of the popular vendors are located there. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated...first time Kauai visitors..yea Aloha from Texas

We went on Na Pali Catamaran last April. They are one of the only tours that leave from the North Shore. (maybe the only one) napalicatamaran.com
Our tour was very good although the surf was too high to approach the sea caves. We saw some whales in the distance and had spinner dolphins swimming along with our boat for most of the way. The snorkling was pretty good (they supply all the gear)as there were quite a few sea turtles where we stopped. They supplied drinks but the lunch provided was nothing more than a bag of apples and a few packs of cookies they passed around at the very end of our tour. Their web site says "catered lunch" but don't expect too much. Other than that it was a great trip and much better than driving all the way to the south side of the island and back. The other great thing about leaving from Hanalei is that the entire trip is scenic. I've read that there's a long period of travel from the south tours that is quite boring until you get to the Na Pali coast.
Hope this helps! You're going to LOVE Kauai!!

You mentioned the "most popular" are on the south shore. That's the way it appears because I've never seen Napali Catamaran advertised in any of the many brochures like the ones you pick up at the airport. During our trip I overheard one of the passengers ask why. The answer was simply "We don't have to advertise."

We will be staying on the east coast of Kauai but I would think that the best vantage point for a tour would be to leave from Hanalei. How far in advance should we book this tour and are there others that you would recommend/

Napalicatamaran doesn't have to advertise because Reveal Hawaii does it for them.
Its Reveal Hawaii's fav tour because you can go into the caves due to the smaller size of the boat and no sails.
Otherwise Captain Andy, as I remember, is the other fav, and also from the north shore?

We visited Kauai in February and the Napali Coast sails were not available then. We did do some great hikes to view the coast.
I would still return in Feb./March though. Seeing the whales was a great experience. Take binoculars. I only took my mini binoculars--they were fine.
We stayed on the southshore but enjoyed driving to the northshore. Love the beauty of the northshore. We watched the weather channel each night and headed north on the sunny days. If you have a rainy day on the northshore, head south.
