Kauai with kids - where to stay?

I'm planning a trip to Kauai in October for four adults two kids age 4 and 6 and one infant. I'm thinking it would be important to stay within a (very) short walk of a sandy kid-friendly beach, and a swimming pool is a must. Poipu Beach Park sounds good for kids. Any suggestions for 2 or 3 bedroom units near there? Or some other mild swimmable beach? I've never been to Kauai and can't wait - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Diana

Kiahuna Plantation would be perfect for you. Go to outrigger.com, and you can find out all about it! Another thought would be Poipu Kai in a unit close to the beach. You can check out some of those at aston.com.

Poipu Beach Park is your safest bet with children that age. I would be careful of the Poipu Beach (Kiahuna Plantation). We were there in June several years ago and the current was so strong, the adults in our group felt we were being pulled under. The current can vary based on the time of year you are there, so it migh work out ok for you. Although we were walking distance to Poipu beach (at the Poipu Kapili condos) we got in the car and drove to the beach park for the milder conditions.

We too will be traveling to Kauai in April 2001 with 2 children, however mine are 13 & 17. I have been on a mission to find the perfect resort that not only offers a beach, but also a pool. I know that Kiahana Plantation was my first choice however there is no pool there. From my research I think you are able to use a neighboring complexes pool, but thats is difficult with kids. Good luck

Hi Diana,
One super beach for very little kids is Lydgate Beach park (sandy, protected tide pool area, good larger swimming area, and a playground). I think there is a Holiday Inn "Sunspree" resort right within walking distance of the beach and playground. Also up north the Sheraton has a sensational pool for kids and a lovely beach, though the hotel decor isn't to everyone's taste (kinda the sacrificial temple look...but the pool is super). I share the concerns about little ones swimming at Poipu though on the whole it's a wonderful area.
